Ying Scholar Competition
features TWO NEW SCHOLARSHIPS for Upstate NY students!
Onondaga Community College will host the first Ying Scholar Competition this coming March. Every high school student in the Ying TRSEF is eligible for this new scholarship contest. Using your Ying TRSEF science fair project, you now add a chance for one of TWO $1000 scholarships!
What is involved? You will submit your abstract and a 10-page version of your science fair report. In the Summary and Certification Form, you will talk about the process and the people who shared this path. Finally — and most uniquely — you will consider the potential of your work to make the world a better place!
Dr. Ying offers these scholarships because he believes that you could transform the future IF aware of your own potential. So … he will invite distinguished judges to review your applications and reports. Five Ying Scholar Finalists will be invited to Syracuse for a March 20th Final Round. Those judges will hear your 20-minute defense, then announce their selection of the TWO Ying Scholars Sunday evening, March 21st, at the Science Fest Awards Ceremony.
The Ying Scholar panel includes former astronaut and physicist Dr. Franklin Chang-Dìaz (virtual judge with real-time video hook-up), computer engineer Dr. Heather Dussault, oncologist and bioethicist Dr. Kathy Faber-Langendoen, microbiologist Dr. Ernest Hemphill, biologist Dr. Thomas Keenan, Rear Admiral Thomas Joseph Moore (also a virtual judge), and physiologist Dr. Margaret Reece.
